World of Warcraft, like many other on the web games, is really a social knowledge enjoyed by people of all ages and backgrounds. In the few months that I have been actively playing I’ve met 56-year-old grandmothers, 9-year-old boys, teenagers, and both men and women in their 20′s and 30′s. The very first point I do every time I log in is to see which of my friends are on. On the web buddies, in this day and age of technology, have turn out to be a substitute for actual life buddies. In some cases, like with my husband and me when we first moved to a new location, those are the only friends an individual feels he has. You grow to care about these people who you only know from what they kind or the sound of their voice on Ventrillo.
The game also offers an escape from reality. Some individuals watch television or read books as their escape, but World of Warcraft puts you in the driver’s seat, so to speak. You produce your character and customize him to precisely what you would like. That’s something you can’t do in real life. With your character you can explore new locations, solve puzzles, interact with other individuals halfway across the nation or even the world, fight evil and help your side win.
In a way, you sort of really feel like a hero in World of Warcraft. It is a wonderful retreat for people who are bullied in real life or who really feel inadequate. In the game you transform from the nerd to the hero.
Individuals maintain playing because it is addictive. You would like to reach level 80, you want to have the greatest gear, and you would like to be the top in harm for a raid boss. In essence, you want to become the hero. Guilds are formed so like-minded individuals can get together and raid hard dungeons, or form pre-made battlegrounds which give them a much better chance of beating the competition. There is usually something to attain in World of Warcraft. When I very first reached stage 80 I stated to my husband, “Okay, now what?” I started raiding and doing PvP (player versus player) in battlegrounds, and I did daily quests to earn more gold so I could buy much better gear and also the materials I needed to stage my professions.
Even after you’ve reached stage 80, the maximum stage in WoW right now, there’s still plenty to do.
Occasionally I do get bored playing. To combat the boredness, I go out and do things that other players laugh at me for. You can find achievements now like exploring the whole land, doing a particular number of quests, leveling professions, gaining reputation with certain factions, obtaining riding mounts and pets, and all types of other things. Individuals LOL at me when they see my stage 80 character in the “lowbie lands” completing super easy quests for achievements. But I don’t care. That’s my idea of fun and that’s what I like to complete. With World of Warcraft, everyone can have their personal idea of fun because there is something for everyone.
It’s a great tension reliever, right after a bad day, to play some BGs (battlegrounds) and kill other players to lead your team to victory. It is also enjoyable to PvP within the globe, selecting a target and making his game life miserable for a couple hours as you camp his body, killing him respectively. It certain beats real living violence. You wouldn’t go at your boss with daggers and magic spells, but World of Warcraft helps to relieve that kind of stress.
There’s also the lore element. If you’re into fantasy, Globe of Warcraft is really a great story. Personally, I’ve never truly gotten into the lore, I just take pleasure in actively playing, but there is a large and fascinating story to unfold throughout gameplay.
As for cost, for a small cost you have a full month of entertainment, whereas you could go see 1 movie a month (if you purchase popcorn) for the same price. When people ask me why I play, I tell them, “It’s cheap entertainment.”
